Mugwort (Artemisia spp.)
Family: Asteraceae
Flowering: July - August
Description:
Mugwort is a perennial and rhizomatous plant. Unlike ragweed (Ambrosia spp.) with which it can be confused, the leaf sides are not uniform. The leaf upperside is dark green, the underside covered with dense white hairs. It may reach up two meters height. The most widespread species of the genus Artemisia is the common wormwood (Artemisia vulgaris), a very common weed. It is found on sideways, along paths, railways and rivers, and in wastelands. The main pollination period of this plant is on the first half of August. Mugwort pollen may be responsible for summertime seasonal allergies.
